Zuo Zhiyi and Wang Tianxiang Officially Announced to Depart for Algeria

2024-09-23

To strengthen and expand our presence in the African market, after careful consideration, it has been decided that Zhiyi Zuo and Tianxiang Wang, from Tianjin Machinery Import & Export Co., Ltd.—a subsidiary of our group—will travel to Algeria on November 9, 2024, to discuss business opportunities. They are expected to stay abroad for eight days.

To continuously drive the implementation and effectiveness of the Ten Actions for High-Quality Development, the machinery company is not only diligently executing the Zambia King’s Hospital project but also leveraging its strong reputation—built on past success in hospital projects—to actively pursue and participate in similar initiatives. By staying deeply engaged in its core business, the company aims to foster sustainable growth, enhance its competitive edge, and deliver long-term value.

In May 2024, the machinery company was invited to participate in technical discussions for the medical equipment procurement project of the CHU University Hospital in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, which is being contracted as general contractor by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC). Building on the technical exchanges conducted in the previous phase, our company’s expertise has been positively recognized by CSCEC Algeria, the project implementer. CSCEC (Algeria) has expressed strong interest in our proposed technical solution and has extended an invitation for our team to visit the project site in Algeria for a detailed on-site assessment, as well as further discussions on both the technical plan and potential collaboration approaches.

The owner of the Algiers CHU University Hospital Center project is the Algerian Government’s Ministry of Health, with the design and construction contract awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation. Located in the Zéralda area of Algiers, the project is valued at approximately USD 500 million. It aims to create a world-class medical and research facility integrating cutting-edge services such as treatment, examinations, diagnostics, hospital accreditation, research, and training. The hospital will feature 700 beds and include comprehensive departments across its medical zones—encompassing an adult hospital, a children’s hospital, a day-care unit, and a dedicated technical center. Additionally, the facility will house multi-functional ancillary spaces like laboratory and teaching buildings, as well as administrative office complexes. As Algeria’s most significant public health initiative, once operational, this project will dramatically enhance the country’s capacity to deliver high-quality healthcare services to its population.

We hope that this visit will facilitate in-depth discussions between the machinery company and China State Construction (Algeria) regarding the technical solutions, and we recommend that the project stakeholders approve a phased implementation of the equipment list—organized in a manner that is both logical and advantageous to our company. This medical equipment project is expected to require an investment of up to $300 million, with a significant portion allocated toward procuring world-class brands. Meanwhile, our company plans to participate in supplying certain domestically produced equipment packages, with an estimated value ranging from $30 million to $50 million. Through initial discussions with SARL EL MORDJANE MEDICAL and EURL ALGERIE ULTRA SOUND, we’ve already identified a strong mutual interest in collaboration. Moving forward, we aim to establish a local emergency maintenance and support mechanism for future medical equipment supply projects, thereby enhancing our chances of winning the contract. Additionally, by visiting and assessing the ongoing projects of potential partners, we can gain valuable insights into their capabilities and better understand the current state of medical equipment standards in the region. This approach will help tailor our formal technical proposals even more closely to the actual needs of end-users.

The expenses related to the delegation will be borne by Tianjin Machinery Import & Export Co., Ltd. These costs have already been included in the company’s current-year budget for temporary official overseas (or border-crossing) travel, which is funded entirely from the company’s internal resources. The estimated cost per person is approximately 23,058 yuan.
